Instructors now have much more complex decisions to make about course design and delivery. How do you decide whether a course should be face-to-face, blended or fully online? If blended, what is best done online and what on campus? If there is to be a digital component to the teaching, what is best done on video, through books or written articles, through virtual reality, or through social media? What are the educational benefits and limits of these various media?
This presentation, based on nearly 50 years of teaching with and research on different media, will examine research and theory on these issues and will offer some guidelines, with examples, to help instructors make appropriate decisions.
